Our mission is to create a community where refugees are welcomed and equipped with all they need to build new lives. At Canopy, we are committed to welcoming and equipping refugees with the various services and skills they need to build new lives here in the United States. Since 2016, we have welcomed nearly 200 refugees to NWA, enrolled over 50 children in school, taught over 400 hours of cultural orientation, and worked with over a dozen employers in the community.

Read Canopy's story now. We provide intensive case management and basic needs support for new arrivals' first 90-180 days in the country. We set them up in stable housing, connect them to health services, provide job training, and more. As a part of our resettlement assistance, we provide employment services and ongoing integration support through an after-school program, a refugee health promotion program and an ongoing employment program.

To truly feel home in a new place takes time and work. Under Canopy's Long Welcome initiative, our Integration Support Services are extended for up to 5 years and expanded to serve a larger community.
Services
In 2015, dozens of Northwest Arkansas residents from across the community came together to respond to the ongoing global refugee crisis.
These community members wanted to do something to help, but quickly found that there was no way to support refugees through resettlement assistance in the state of Arkansas because there wasn't an active resettlement agency in the state.
All across Northwest Arkansas, the grassroots interest in welcoming refugees continued to grow and spurred community action.

Canopy Northwest Arkansas is a tax-exempt, nonprofit organization as described in section 501(c)(3) of the IRS code.
Our tax identification number is 81-1305235.
Adequate records will be maintained and made available to the IRS upon request.
A refugee is a person who is unable or unwilling to return to his or her home country because of a "well-founded fear of persecution" due to race, membership in a particular social group, political opinion, religion, or national origin.
This means that in order to be a refugee, you can't just be in any type of danger-you must be in danger because of who you are.
Under President Carter, Congress passed the Refugee Act of 1980, which incorporated the U.N. Convention's definition into U.S. law and provides the legal basis for today's U.S. Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP).
The Case Manager provides services that assist refugees in adjusting to life in the United States by helping the refugee or client meet immediate needs upon arrival and by preparing and implementing a resettlement plan in accordance with timelines and requirements of federal, state and other funding sources.
The Case Manager also provides integration case management services to support the client towards integration for up to 5 years post arrival, including the coordination of Canopy's "Celebrate Wellness" workshop series designed to provide ongoing cultural orientation and promote health literacy.
Canopy's mission is to provide a robust network of support for refugees resettling in Northwest Arkansas.
Our vision is to not only meet their basic needs, but to equip them with the tools to thrive as active members of the NWA community.
Through the Reception and Placement program, Canopy provides all newly-arriving refugee families with intensive case management and financial support for their first 90 days in the US.
Many households are also eligible for the Matching Grant Program, which extends this services up to 180 days.
